Synopsis: this film, filmed in Guinea-Bissau, explores the rise in the prophetic movement of the Kyangyang people and their relationship with Islam, Catholicism and Evangelism. The film explores different aspects of prophetism: writing, healing, possession rituals and spiritual initiation. In the Balanta language “kyangyang” means shadow. And these prophets are shadows of the modern world: a world that they constantly mimic and subvert.
